Ford C Max water ingress.
« on: October 13, 2012, 10:28:51 AM »
Hi ,
I have a Ford C Max 2007 TDci.
Last winter i heard what i assume was water travelling across the dashboard. Ford dealership could not find anything obvious, wanted £300 to take dash out. I decided not to do this.
We have had a good downpour for days now. I have not noticed water sloshing about, but both front foot well carpets are wet.

Any suggestions ??

Thank you

Regards

Jane

Hi Jane and welcome to the forum, water ingress is normally the result of blocked drains around the scuttle area on most cars. Pour some water on the windscreen and allow it to run down - you should find it coming out down low by the wheels after its made it's way through the channels. If you don't get that from either side then it may be blocked.

Other causes could be (if you've had the windscreen replaced) that its not been sealed properly (generally unlikely from factory), either of the door internal membrane's becoming unstuck, aerial mounting not tight.

Generally a good idea is to cover the floor with kitchen roll before it rains, you should then be able to check on it periodically and see if the waters coming from the front/back left/right.

I had a similar problem and the garage took part of the dash out a couple of times, used a hose to try locate the ingress with no success. In the end they took all the dash out to find the heater matrix had a crack and the water was filling the footwells up. I hope this isn't the same for you as it cost £1,000 to replace the unit.

Hello Burlingham  [W4]

With your water ingress heater matrix problems are usually evident with windows steaming up  and loss of coolant also wet dog smell in the car.
