1900 tdi 115 auto - vibration/judder

Just replaced front outer driveshafts, wishbones, ball joints, track rod ends, struts, springs, top mounts and have what feels like a wobbly wheel nearside when accelerating 20 mph to 30 then smoothes out. 

Swapped wheels and n/s driveshaft, checked wheel bearing for play, no culprit found.

Is it inner drive shaft or autobox ?? Any suggestions welcome for this frustrated Ford fixer. ???

The inner joints are normally the ones that fail, its rare for the outside ones to go tbh. The inner joints a tripod affair that wears and then allows too much play and a wobble sensation.

Having replaced a lot of the front suspension components you'll have tightened up the front so any problems will be amplified - did you change all that to fix this fault or for something else / general maintenance?

The reason for the overhaul was a damaged strut/spring during winter, strut tops and wishbones were groaning during any parking manouevres.  When disconnecting the strut and driveshaft, driveshaft fell apart. 

Both driveshafts have been replaced, driver side and nearside.  Nearside one started leaking grease through CV gaiter so it was returned and replaced under 2 year warranty.  Wheels have been checked laser aligned and track adjusted after suspension rebuild. New tyres and balancing.  Still getting vibration, swapped wheel with  rear, still vibrating, could a wheel bearing make no noise bu create this vibration??

So your saying the vibration /wobble wasn't there prior to the damaged spring/strut.
I must say I have a similar low speed tremble/shudder usually makes the passenger seat rattle when not sat on, but it's intermittent it's not always noticeable.
I was beginning to think it may be the autobox but have just had it reconditioned for other problems which are now OK but the feeling is still there sometimes.
I changed driveshafts a few years ago for excess play but that didn't cure it, new front tyres recently rears in the next few months.

No the wobble/vibration was not immediately noticeable until I had changed out all the suspension components.  Car is very quiet and smooth now especially parking, just this damn annoying wobble/vibration.

Have checked and rechecked all torque settings.  Also hoisted the front end on Saturday, put a pair of stands under the front end and ran in gear to visually inspect the driveshaft rotation and any oscillation.  Saw another post on FGOC that driveshafts bought from factors cause this problem, but passenger side has now had a replacement fitted.

Have heard that engine mounts can also create this problem due to boroken bolts so next line of investigation is there.

Taking her down to my local garage for second opinion at lunch time!!

Factor shafts have definitely been known to cause this, some seem more susceptible then others for some reason.
The engine mount will be the roll restricter, this is the one bolted to the lower back of the engine - its not unknown for the bolt to shear on a TD but its normally the 2.3 that suffers this problem and you typically get a clunking noise and the engine bangs into it.

i suffered from the bolt shearing on my old mk1 2ltr petrol.so it is a possibility?

Vibration problem improved by replacing cheapie driveshafts with better quality items from SKF.

Still have slight judder but not the seat shaker previously experienced.

Having replaced:

Wishbones x 2
Springs & Struts x 2
Top donut mounts x 2
Strut bearings & nuts x 2
Ball joints x 2
Central engine mount x 1
Driveshafts - n/s & o/s
Drop links x 2

Plus:

Transmission service x 1

What else is there?  Stub shaft and intermediate, suggestions please.

It may well be worth going for balancing again. I found out, to great expense, that the Galaxy is ridiculously fussy when it comes to balancing and can show it a number of weird and wonderful ways - with me it was under acceleration from 60>80 but would coast along fine at all speeds.

The trouble is the vibration still feels like the wobbly wheel sensation as opposed to having a wheel out of balance.

I have already rotated wheels with the back as had tyres replaced front and rear.

Running out of ideas now as to what could be at fault.

Had the battery tray out again and re-checked gearbox engine mount, it was fine with no broken bolts or movement.

Really need to get a resolution on this as am now clocking up regular motorway miles from Scotland to Yorkshire each week and need to be sure the car is reliable.

Mine didn't feel like a balancing issue either which is why I went down the same kinda route you have :) It used to shake the steering wheel from side to side and give a chassis type feel but only under acceleration... the weirdest balancing issue I've ever come across :)

Decided to order stub shaft and intermediate to ensure all power train components were renewed prior to holiday.  Saw Shaftec set and ordered.  Removed the old items then hit a snag. Comparing new shaft with old the dimensions were radically different, having been advised that auto and manual drive train components were same am somewhat perplexed at the difference.  Totally hacked off now after spending hours eliminating fault after fault.

Piccy shows the difference very clearly indeed.    >:(

Looking at the photo there, I would suggest thats a shaft from the 4motion sharan. The length of your old one looks very close to the manual one so probably is the same, to be that much shorter it would suggest something big should be between the box and shaft.
