Hi.. trying to help my dad and his 52 plate 2.8 V6 have searched but nothing of the V6 Galaxy relates...

among other issues I'm doing a coolant change, dropped the old but seems I can get no where near the same amount back in???

is there a way of doing it... I've searched all over internet but found nothing, not even the capacity...

is the air bleed valves anywhere? I can not see any but engine is so tight in there, I'm use to my 6.6 turbo diesel pick up truck where everything is big and obvious....

Other issue is passenger rear driver side door, does nothing when the rest of the doors lock or unlock, you can not even manually lock it by pushing the interior chrome handle in, its feels like resistance is there.

Last thing is its auto and when shifting from 1st to 2nd it nearly breaks your neck, even with light throttle its still harsh.. its already had filter and fluid change at specialist but I know my dad gets ripped off as he's older and too trusting and polite.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received... as I've a wife wanting her car doing all while I've my money pit to plow more cash into..

Howdy!

There aren't any bleed valves in the coolant system to my knowledge, there certainly aren't on the TDI. When you say nowhere near how much coolant do you estimate came out VS how much went back in? It's normal to need to get the engine up to operating temperature to get the thermostat to open to purge air trapped in the system, as well as having the heaters turned up at the same time to bleed any air trapped in their pipework/ heater matrixes. I think the coolant capacity from totally empty is in the region of 8-ish litres but unless you go pulling off the rear blower box hoses and the thermostat you'll never get it all out anyway.

As for the gearbox fault, it could be a number of things, the first step would be to get hold of a diagnostic lead from the likes of  [eBay] and download the free VCDS software which will allow you to check for any stored fault codes. Link to the cable here.

Regarding the door locking, issues are common with the wiring looms where they pass from the vehicle body into the door through a rubber gaiter, might be worth taking a look for broken/ damaged wires caused by the constant flexing when the door is opened/ shut. If it's not an electrical issue it could be the latch itself at fault, one of our contributors wrote an article on stripping the latch here.

Thanks for the reply insanitybeard... I didn't think anybody had replied and car is still sat unused lol!!

OK the coolant issue I'd say a good 8L came out but I'm at about 4-5L back in.. have had heating on, which works, driven all around village temp at 90... have found over night the coolant bottle goes down, so slowly topping it up so at around 5-6L now.

As for trans hard shifting I do have a ELM327 connection that I plug into my yanky truck and have an app on Android phone, wonder if this will work?

As for door locking.. SORTED.. It was indeed the loom, 3 wires showing bare wires and one wire totally snapped... on top of that some monkey had been in already and failed to find issue, door card all ripped and the cable from handle to lock has an adjusting plastic piece (bit like the adjustment of a push bike brake cable) which was snapped (still is) but think that just fine tunes the cable so interior handle is flush...

Check the small hose to the top of the coolant bottle is returning coolant/bubbles with engine running and cap off.
