Adjusting the PD injector rocker for an ASZ motor
« on: August 29, 2018, 07:48:03 pm »
Hello. I have a 2005 Seat Alhambra wiht a ASZ engine - TDI with 96kW. I purchased the injector nozzle seal kits for the PD injectors. The kits are from Elring - P/N 900.650 - like this one -  https://www.motointegrator.de/artikel/569102-dichtungssatz-pumpe-duese-einheit-elring-900650.
Can someone provide the information about how many degrees should the adjusting screw be turned back when adjusting the gap between the adjusting screw and the head pin of the injector?
It is all explained in this document for example: https://uk-mkivs.net/topic/47394-how-to-change-diesel-unit-injectors/
One usually turns the adjusting screw till a resistance is felt - i.e. the adjusting screw is bottoming on the head pin. After that the adjusting screw is turned back 180 or 270 degrees.
My question is whether the ASZ engine requires 180 degrees or 270 degrees turning back?
Most documents state 180 degrees are needed, but I've seen several sources of information that state 270 degrees is needed.
What is the right angle for the ASZ engine?
Thanks in advance.

I did some research when I had my injectors out and found out original setting was 270 but VW later changed to 180 for all 1.9pd engines.
Mine was set to 180 and all was good

Set it to 180. The proper way to do it is complicated involves a dial gauge to measure the cam lobe when it is at a particular point etc. , so just stick to this. Setting it to 270 won't hurt it either.

Hello. Thanks for all answers.
I have a dial indicator for that purpose and also a big vernier caliper for ensuring the injectors are perpendicular to the head. I will also take a measurements with the vernier caliper before dismantling the injectors.

If you are taking the injectors off its also a good idea to measure the distance between head and injector edge with filler blades or mark their exact position with some paint, but it isnt crucial.

I didn’t use a dial gauge just turned engine slowly to make sure rocket was all the way down.

Also I didn’t use a vernier on injectors just used feeler gauges between head and injector to make sure it was perpendicular to head so injector hold down wedge was square with mounting face on injector

"The injector is pressed to full depth when the top of the INTAKE valve cam lobe is aligned with the center of the injector lobe roller. Note that for each cylinder, the intake lobes are located across the head e-i-e-i-i-e-i-e (i=intake, e=exhaust)"
Got this from another forum and used this method. Works well enough.  Tighten lock nut on adjuster screw to 32Nm or 24ft lbs
