Air Con leak! Will this ever end! 😂
« on: June 23, 2017, 07:26:53 PM »

I'm all MOT'd up!

Lad went to regas for me and it was hissing as soon as it connected.

Are there any common leak points that I can check off hand that are easily accessible without me needing to ramp up?

Cheers guys!

Condenser most likely.  Although the receiver dryer rots away on early models.  Pipes are known to leak if they have rubbed.  I know some evaporators have leaked behind the dashboard but thats rare.  Ideally have it filled with nitrogen and search for the leak.  Or glasses and uv torch and look for dye in the oil leakage.

If it was heard hissing straight away check the pipe that comes from compressor as they are known to crack by the little canister thing.
Also the receiver/dryer filter cap on left hand side of condenser is a known failure point although that's normally a slow leak.

Condenser is around £30 + and comes with a receiver drier cartridge fitted.
Recommended to replace every two years as a whole and go dreade the area around the cap under the rubber hosing

Low pressure air con pipe that goes from the compresser and to under the drivers head light  is well known to split, can be had for £70 off eBay (ford want £130+!)

That's what my car had and mine is not the best so if class them as common issues.

Plenty of write ups how to go about it and takes around an afternoon.

My a/c was good up to a few weeks ago when a pipe disconnected it self, a recharge today after reconnecting it should be me sorted afterwards.
