CD Mulitchanger doesn't work after a battery change
« on: February 14, 2020, 10:06:39 AM »
Greetings, Radio and CD Player 4050/5000 Everything was working fine until I had to have my battery changed as the old one died. The RAC did it and initially everything seemed ok. We put the radio code in and that worked straight away. it wasn't until later that I discovered that the cd player wouldn't work. i have checked the manual and it says the put in the V.I,N. My Son and law have tried it a few times and it keeps coming up as error code E5. I have had the whole system checked again by the RAC and the fuses and power to the unit are all ok.  So it has to be the code. The problem being that in the manual it says that the unit will store 16/16 digits as in numbers and letters. But the V.I.N number is 17 digits long. We have tried leaving the first letter and the last number off but still no joy. So has anyone come across this problem before as it is driving me nuts as I can't even get me CD's out not let alone listen to them?  Any help much appreciated.

I had a similar problem but may not cure your issue. When I had a Passat it went into a garage to have some work done and afterwards the Bluetooth and radio never worked.I never really bothered as it wasn't used much it was only when I disconnected
and re connected the battery some time afterwards for another reason that it all started working again.I assume it was some form of corruption.May be worth a try.

Thank you, but I had the RAC out to check the whole system, fuses and power to the multi-changer they also disconnected and reconnected the battery but all to no avail. But thanks for trying :).

I have never heard of having to put VIN in to a head unit before in WAH you describe... if it takes code and works then itís working I thought. Sounds like your CD unit has just packed up to me

The Mk2 Ford radios dont use VIN locking full stop, even the factory Nav unit (which is a VW unit) doesn't VIN lock, that type of security didnt come in til 2017 on Fords so its 100% not that! For the record you can store the VIN number in the radio (which it sounds like you are trying to do) but it has no effect at all on locking the unit. The only time it gets displayed is IF the unit gets locked out with incorrect keycodes.

The radio code will be required BUT the radio code is just for the radio, the changer isn't protected at all they are simply plug and play. If you can listen to the radio then you've already done the code correctly.

You'll need to the pull the radio out of its aperture and replace the inline fuse that's in the cable to the changer, it's a 5A max blade - no way in the world an RAC patrol will have checked that one and from what's been described the most likely culprit.
