Dayco Timing Belt Kit And VW Water Pump
« on: July 31, 2017, 04:41:42 PM »
Hello from sunny-ish South Wales

This Is my first post but I have been a keen viewer for a few months now..

I am the un-proud owner of a 2004 VW Carrot 1.9TDi and I can say hand on heart this is the worse car I have ever owned in 35 years of driving, so many things have gone wrong with it and the list just keeps going, but for some unknown reason I refuse to get rid of it.... It's Christine 2 or as I Affectionately know it.... The Shitvan  LOL

I have read a few post ref timing belt kits and after market water pumps and the costs involved.

I Thought you guys would like to know that I found a Dayco timing belt kit on  [eBay] for 48.32 delivered (VW Dealership wanted 150 ), The Kit took 4 days to arrive and the pulley and tensioner were made by GMB Corp in Korea (Top Quality)
here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAYCO-TIMING-BELT-KIT-KTB296-FIT-VW-SHARAN-1-9-TDI-2-0TDI-1995-2010-OE-QUALITY/172421084054?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Water pump is a genuine VW Dealership part for 52.40 but there is an additional surcharge of 30 but I get that back when I return my old water pump. So for 100ish pounds I am for once a happy bunny..... no doubt with this car it will be sort lived. [CRY]

I got her at the end of feb this year as a mini camper project as I was going to be working away and within a week she began to show her evil side..lol

Everything listed below as gone over the last 4 months.

1 x Drop link failed (Both Replaced)
1 x Lower control arm went (Both Replaced)
1 x CV Joint Split
Rear engine mount failed
1 x Hand brake cable snapped (Replaced Both Rear and Centre)
1 x Rear Calliper Seized (Replaced Both)
1 x Inner and outer tie rods Failed (Both Pairs Replaced)
1 x Ball Joint Failed (Replaced Both) both new ones failed with in a month of fitting due to split rubber boots (Failed MOT) Had a rant at the supplier and they sent me two upgraded replacement ball joints (Different Rubber Design)
400 pounds worth of welding (Failed MOT)
Rear exhaust fell off and when I had a closer look noticed the centre section was also shagged (Both Replaced)
Rear washed water stopped working, (Hose split in pass foot well) this in turn knackered the reversing sensor control box under the pass seat (Control Box Replaced).
N/S/F window stopped working (Switch Replaced)
O/S/R window winder snapped (Replaced That)
Brake light switch dead (Replaced That)
Interior lights have got a short and will not turn off (Fuse Removed For Now)
Car Battery started going flat over 24 hours (Was a Short in the tow bar electrics, Fix That)
One of the relays in the fuse box keeps going nuts when I hit the brakes while driving (Still Trying To Sort That One)

Apart from that the cars working fine...  [HAHA] LOL [CRY]

My other car is a 15 year old Ford Fiesta 1.4 tdi with 150000 miles and runs like a dream....lol

Just a couple of faults then?! Lol

Ref the relay going nuts when pressing brake, check the wiring from car in to tailgate as it's notorious for breaking and shorting across circuits, if that all ok try removing plugs to rear lamp units and double check brake circuit to tow bar electrics.
