The electric window on my driver's door stopped working a couple weeks back. As soon as it did I knew what it was, it had given me a couple of warnings before, plus I could see that somebody had been in there (the wiring loom in the door gaiter) previously to make 'repairs' -not very good ones, because the multiplug locking ring and door sealing 'grommet' were busted. And when I looked closer, the previous soldered repair had failed, the trouble was because it had been repaired previously so close to the multiplug on a couple of wires there just wasn't enough cable left to have another go at repairing. I know (with some special tools) it is possible to remove the pins from the multiplug and equally, repair kits do exist for this purpose with pre-crimped terminals on short lengths of wire, though I'm not sure if they're readily available outside of the automotive trade:



Anyway, with this total amount of bodgery and damage previously inflicted on it I decided to renew the complete loom. Secondhand ones IMO are a waste of money as chances are they'll be equally as knackered as what you're trying to replace. It looks like the wiring loom is now obsolete from Ford (I've got the Ghia model with controls for all four electric windows on the drivers door switch cluster as well as the electric mirror adjuster joystick)- when we checked with Ford it was shown as 'referred to Germany, expected to backorder', meaning Ford Europe have no current stock- and on a 10+ year old car, it's unlikely they'll produce any more so it's as good as obsolete- FYI, the Ford part number was 1331192, the retail price about 150 plus VAT  ::). Not to be deterred, and with some previous advice from Mirez in mind I went and checked with SEAT for price and availability for a wiring loom for a similar age Alhambra- the main difference to be aware of was that the Alhambra loom had a few extra wires for the exterior (either folding or with built in side repeater indicators- I can't remember which) mirrors, but was otherwise basically the same. When I stripped the door down on the Galaxy to check the old wiring loom, it had VW's reference of 7M3 974 950 EC on it (you couldn't order this part from VW as it was made specifically for the Galaxy and not used in either the VW or SEAT variants). The Alhambra / Sharan equivalent loom carried the part number 7M3 974 950 ET- very close to the Ford loom part number with a slight difference at the end denoting some level of revision. The loom from SEAT was 172 with the VAT, not any cheaper than Ford which surprised me, but at least it was still available.

Looking to see if I could save a few quid, I looked online and managed to come up with somebody in Germany ( who could supply the same part, isn't it daft that I could buy it from Germany, pay for shipping and paypal currency adjustment into Euros and still be able to buy it for over 40 quid less than I could from SEAT here?  ??? So I ordered it, it turned up about 3-4 days after ordering and I fitted it yesterday- all sorted. The VW / SEAT loom is indeed a carbon copy of my original one even down to all the cable colour coding, the connectors are all exactly the same, the only difference is a few extra cables for the door mirror which are unused on my car. So overall I'm pretty chuffed with that. I still think the price is ridiculous for a bloody wiring loom though!

As an alternative, you can also buy an aftermarket repair plug from  [eBay] - see here ( which comprises of the plug, gaiter and door sealing cap complete with a load of short lengths of wire prefitted with crimp connectors, the idea being you just cut your old plug and wires off and crimp this repair piece to the existing loom, it's still quite expensive but might be worth considering if you've got a lot of busted wires to contend with, or somebody else's previous bodgery.... The price of either a new loom or even the repair piece will put most people off, understandably so on what are now 10+ year old cars but it's an option if you find yourself unable to repair what you've got......

Was looking at the picture just noticed the original part price down bottom
Did you go for original or the pro choice part cheers

Pro choice gets you the aftermarket multiplug with the bunch of crimp connectors which are fitted after chopping your existing loom. Original (more expensive) gets you the Genuine VW part- i.e, the complete door loom as per the bottom picture in my first post. I paid about 130 for the complete loom after shipping and paypal currency conversion to Euros, still 40 cheaper than buying it from VW/Seat in this country!

Yes I fixed a couple myself after being locked out
Then I suddenly opened fixed doorlock but 2 frayed 1 shaped at gland

Will this part be any use for folks?  Not quite the same part number but it's clearly close.  And it's substantially cheaper....
