Drivers elec window
« on: March 10, 2019, 03:08:19 PM »
My 2001 2.3 galaxy has just come back after being in workshop for 18months for the ddoor lock elecs to be sorted (the wiring plugs came out minus wiring--- but thats another story) apart from door card being a mess the window nows only goes 2/3rds 0f the way down anyb ideas out there is this likely to be mechanical after so long out of use or would it be part of the unrepaired locking problem.....Thanks

Most likely either something is getting stuck in the mechanism (stray wires?) or the runners are bent/distorted or just sticking - the last one you might be able to free up using WD40 or similar. I've known the outside door strips (the ones that sit against the glass) on other cars to start rotting away and swell up as a result, that can stop the glass moving easily.

You should be able to apply power to the motor directly to see if it can move to rule out the door wires, though I've only known them to either work or not work down to the wiring.

Other possibility is the regulator is the problem - any noises (creaking or cracking plastic or similar sounds?) coming when it stops?

thanks for the reply, it goes down quite smoothly til 2/3rds down then just stops, I am going to take door card off anyway to put right the damage done to the card while the the loom repairs were supposed to be done, really just wanted some ideas what to look for at least you have given me a possible starting point

18 months to have some wiring repairs!!! Thatís a crazy amount of time.

As for the window it sounds like a mechanical issue to me most likely the runner inside the door is either bent or not been put back in correctly after they were in there for wiring. Take door card off and have a good look, even try removing the runner see if window works then.

Totally different are there any repair panels available for top suspension mounting points there is an advisory on the new MOT

Are you asking about the metal part of the chassis there, or the top mount itself? if its the metal and its been advised on the mot you might be best to investigate what sort of state it is in and see if it can be cleaned up and repainted to stop it getting any worse. A photo might help?

The caps on the front end do fill up with water and rust as a result. They are replaceable if need be, but your likely to want to replace the strut if you get them off due to the state they get in. Though unless the scuttle has been removed, you can't see them.

I'd ask the garage to show you what they mean if possible when you collect it. But if its advisory rather than a fail, then it can probably be stopped getting worse by doing something now about it.
