Engine transplant
« on: June 08, 2017, 12:39:50 PM »
Can I put a 115 engine into a 130 car
Reason being I have a 115 auto and my reverse does not work as of This morning
My brother in laws brother has a 130 manual but the timing chain snapped on his got head replaced but runs awfully since as garage didn't tighten something and knackered the correct 130 head he bought and sourced there own probably the wrong one
So as above can I put my engine in his car apart from the manual gear box is everything else the same

After a bit of googeling I believe as long as I change over my ecu engine should run fine
Question is do I need anything to fit my engine to the manual box or should everything I need be with both cars
A friends garage will doing the work
Any advice appreciated

I think the clutch/gearbox will bolt together fine.
You will probably need to swap intercooler, radiator and coolant pipework also as the set up is different between 115 and 130.

Cheers
Sounds like it's the brake band
And I don't think I can get this part unless anybody knows where I could get part from

Sorry didn't read post fully, your engine will need drive plate swapping for flywheel and clutch along with ecu, intercooler and pipes etc.

As for brake band on yours have you looked for a 2nd hand box? Sure it's a vw box so would think other models have it fitted not just sharan, bammy  and gal

Unfortunately it's come at the wrong time
As I've used all spare cash I had so trying to fix for cheapest price possible
f it is the above box can get part for about 70 and can be done on car or atleast without dropping box out
Just need to check what box is

Think the garage will probably drop the box but seen a thread about doing in situ but that was on a different car
But with the galaxy being bigger may be done
I won't be doing it
But at least I know it's the right box
Got schematic  of box and list of parts and list
Will discuss what they recommend
And best get my homebrew on the go think I will be supplying an awful lot of ale soon 😁

Hats off to them if they can do that in situ as it don't look easiest if jobs quite a complex piece of kit auto box's. Only have limited experience of stripping them in college days and a bit on voith turbo units at LH plant wouldn't tackle one myself, get them to change oil and filter while at it aswell.

Fingers crossed for a quick and cheap repair.

That's an odd one with the tow hitch wiring, when you find it I bet it is something really stupid,we chased a wiring fault for days at work that caused no end of trouble...... turned out some fool fitted a 3" screw to toilet door that went through a bundle of 40 cables that with vibrations couple of days later shorted a circuit to earth!!

Only place I think it could be is on the fuse board itself
All lights work fine but when trailer plugged in indicators won't work
Disconnected trailer wiring loom as I bought ford kit and the short is on the car some where
Pain in the arse
At least mechanical issues show up with either fluid sound or even heat
Unless I get smoke and fire hard to find electrical ones
Cheers for your help and will post the outcome

The fuse boards have been known to have failures so definitely a possibility, might be worth seeing if you can get a 2nd have unit cheap to swap and try?

Seems a shame to send her to the ford dealer in the sky, have you had a look for a used box from a salvage yard or are they too expensive to bother with?

Try again I wrote a post in reply last night but it copied my original post
I've had quotes of 1100 to 1600  from auto specialists
Also got one for 300 if I supply a recon or new box to fit
But none in my area
There are some on eBay from a couple of company's in London
Who will repair in a day reverse issue for about 350 plus oil so probably another 100
Or will supply a swap mechanically refurb box for 450 plus oil
But although they have 100% feedback on eBay on checking the names of garages online they have mixed reviews
So don't fancy a trip to London from Liverpool to get it sorted
To have it strewn across the motorway on way home
So unfortunately it looks like the old girl will have to go and rest
Once I find a replacement or get sick of pushing the car backwards 😑
