Hi Keith and welcome to the forum. Relay 109 is the feed to the ECU so when that fails generally starting and running are the problem.
The glow plug light doubles as an engine management light so its indicating a fault rather then anything specifically wrong with the glow plug circuit and the most common cause is brake light failure. Check to see that you have functioning brake lights, if you don't then its most likely to be worn and damaged wiring within the tailgate rubber gaiter.

Hi there and welcome to the forum
The glow plug light also acts as an engine management light
First thing is to check your brake lights are working, if they are not working it's probably a faulty switch.
This can be found on the brake pedal support bracket
