I may be dim - but my side lights certainly are not !
« on: October 16, 2013, 01:08:04 PM »
I like to think of myself as fairly savvy but when it came to swapping my sidelight bulbs for these super-bright LED ones (As recommended by none other than Mirez :
 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-T10-501-W5W-5-SMD-5050-BRIGHT-WHITE-INTERIOR-SIDE-CAR-WEDGE-LED-LIGHT-LAMP-/251351366829 ) I was struggling like a top muppet  ???

There's no way I could get my bunch of sausages through from the top, to access the bulb, so I resigned myself to having to remove the whole headlight (In the torrential rain  :'( ) . . . . issue 2, the bottom star-bolts were rusted solid & rounded off!

I then tried the lateral-thinking approach, an hour in to the fiasco and removed the inner wing / wheel arch cover to try from there.  Just as the plastic shield snapped back and like a bear trap on my soaking arm, I saw the "Secret trap-door" that old Henry has very cleverly designed, placed strategically in the wheel arch plastic.

Sliding this access cover upwards, revealed an arm-size aperture where I inserted said limb to be able to tickle the end of the bulb holder with my 2 longest fingers  >:(

Cold, wet & frustrated I grabbed an old bit of 2"x1" and the rusty saw and I fashioned a short length of the timber to fit in the end of the bulb holder to enable it to be rotated for removal.  By jove, it worked !  :D

I can't recommend the bulbs too highly and if you use your noodle a little more than I did, it'll be well worth the £3.58 and 20 minutes of foul language to make your Galaxy stand out in the murky world which we share.

Hope my ramblings help save someone else's sanity & knuckles, should they wish to faff with their perfectly adequate Gal.  8)

PS.  Thanks, once again to Mr Mirez, Sensai of the Galaxy  ::) ;) :D

It hadn't registered in my dim-state, after trying with a large screwdriver and then a chisel but you're right, it must have been somewhere in the back of my bonce.  A good tip  ;)
