hi all
the interior lights are not working on my mk2 51 plate galaxy 2.3,i have checked all the fuses and all ok apart from fuse No.53 i have changed the 10 amp fuse but it keeps blowing
i have had all the door looms out and repaired the wires that were broken and the loom in the tail gate, now i have noteiced that the battery junction box has suffered some light melting on the junction box where one of the black wires sits the second black wire in the junction box.so that has been taken off and stripped and cleaned and put back
together now good as new,i just not know what to check next.
any help would be fantastic

regards
garry

What you really need is a wiring diagram.  Then look at the circuit and remove each main consumer. Then put fuse in and if it dont blow start putting each consumer back one by one till it blows.  Or another way would be to measure the potential difference on the earth side of each consumer.  Ideally nothing more than 0.3 volts on the earth side.  Seeing as yours is a dead short circuit i would expect to find a very high voltage on an earth side of a consumer.

But as an after thought I pay most attention to any 12v sockets, cigarette lighter and 12v rear socket.

I am assuming f53 is for interior lights?

Did the problem start after repairing door looms?
If so I would be re checking them to make sure they are all ok,could try unplugging 1 at a time for doors to see if any of them are at fault. Tailgate one must unplug somewhere also but would assume it is above headlining?
If it has been a problem before looms start at basics like checking the interior lights and wiring going to them and also the switches for doors make sure no damaged wiring

I would hazard a guess some water got in somewhere and caused corrosion after being stood
Check the light connections and switches see if anything obvious visible

I have seen this in the past where the BCM gets confused, especially if the battery wasn't connected smoothly. Pop it back off, leave it for 20 mins and then try again.

Jumping starting is known to cause (permanent) problems due to voltage spikes damaging modules.  Not likely in this case but needs to be kept in mind.  charging the battery is preferable, unless it's an emergency - but, in an emergency, what use is a dead car?
