Brilliant thank you johnny, they both have the black metal outer plate with a metal gasket but one had torx and one has bolts,I'll order some sealant first and see if that does the trick.

Did they both have metal gasket between pump and head and have they both got metal gasket between plate and pump? If they do both are later type of either has rubber gaskets its early type.

In not taken them off the side of the head as that seal is ok but it's the same outer one as the first link you posted,Iv been looking on fleabay for the sealant but the magablack doesn't mention if it's fuel safe,I'm sorry I'm a pain in the bottom but do you have a pic of the right stuff please 😔

This is the stuff it is not recommended for petrol but is fine with diesel,it's been on mine over a year with no issues.

The copper rtv Halfords sell can also be used.

Hi Johnny,Iv tried a few products that friends have had that are said to be ok but haven't been,I'm thinking by connecting the fuel lines back onto the pump after doing the job I'm guessing diesel must be seeping into the lower part of the pump and maybe braking the products down before they have gone off,I'm going to order the mega black stuff now, would I be better off putting a bead of the product around the plate and leave if off to harden then fit or should I fit it wet?

Had exactly the same problem with the leaking end plate, spent a good few hours trying to seal it with hylomar and making a new gasket. Just seemed to get worse although no visible crack or distortion.
New pierburg pump @ £300 cured the problem but annoyed that what seemed like a simple job to repair would require a new pump, I think there must have been a hairline crack in the casing.

I think Iv found the reason they might continue to leak if you try to fix them while the pump is still attached to the head,Iv taken the one off my old engine, the black plate isn't the same pattern as the pump,if you run the sealant around the edge of the plate it doesn't touch the face of the pump at the bottom,if that's where it leaked originally it will still leak,if the leak is coming from a different place on the gasket then it won't matter about it not matching.
