The transponder chip out of my Galaxy remote key is made by Philips and has the number PCF7935DS on it (you need a magnifying glass to read it though!) - exactly the same as this. (http://www.nwkeys.co.uk/Portal.aspx?page=43&prod=1165)

Hm, well as well as I can make out from your picture that chip looks very much like this (http://www.nwkeys.co.uk/Portal.aspx?page=43&cat=5&prod=9459) (with the same number by the looks of it) - in the description for that chip it refers to cloning so maybe the chip you've bought can only be cloned from another key, i.e, it doesn't have a unique signature allowing it to be programmed in it's own right? This would explain why you can't programme it normally.

To the best of my knowledge it's done by a locksmith using a special machine to duplicate the transponder signature from an existing key, it isn't something you can do at home.
