Multi misfirng on my 2.8 V6 2005 Galaxy
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:43:49 AM »
I've got multi fault codes for misfiring on all cylinders on my 2.8, V6 Mk2 2005 Galaxy (VAG Codes: 16395,16684,16685,16686,16688,16689). Can anybody help as to what caused this as it happened all at once. The research I've done points towards it possibly the plugs or Coils or both but it seems odd that all of them would have the same problem at the same time. When looking under the bonnet I couldn't see how you disconnect the coils to get to the plugs, is there a tool for this or knack to removing them and when I do get them out what am I looking for. Any info on the subject would be great. Thanks in advance.

It'd be highly unusual for all six coil packs/plugs to pack up at the same time. Has any work been done to the engine for them to have been disturbed? Just how badly is it running? I'm not sure if the engine management switches feeds or earths to the coil packs to make them fire, but without a wiring diagram I don't know if there's a common feed or earth which could cause problems if there was cable damage or a dodgy connection somewhere.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

after some you tube research on coil and plug removal   the easy way is just  to unclip the wiring plug by pushing in the little tab and wiggling it off then a pair of simple water pump pliers  the type plumber use, then just gently hold the top of the coil pack and rock it gently and pull up at same time.  this removes the coil pack from the plug that is way down, you need a longish extension to get them out.

Thanks to Marinabrid and Insanitybeard for you're replies. I've done another test and this time It's only came up with two fault codes which would explain why it would start but run like a bag of spanners. I'll give your method a go marinabrid and swop the coils around to find out exactly which ones need replacing as well as putting in six new plugs. Thanks again and I'll keep you posted as to how I get on.

if you haven't changed all the coils over the years it maybe worth replacing them all.  i got some from euro car parts  on their ebay store which were far cheaper than there on webshop , i rang to ask and they said the ebay shop was a separate business so could sell them cheaper, they were 19 each, I've had no trouble at all.   heres a link    i also got a set of ngk plugs 6 for 40  seemed a good deal.
