Relays

Hi I am having trouble with my Mk2 2.3ltr Petrol Ghia Galaxy. The car wont start wont turn the starter, Had the RAC come out the tested Starter battery no problems there no juice getting to the starter dash board lights up as per norm. I read that it could be relay 30, ive stripped it down to remove it, but when I read about it , it says this relay is for the fuel pump. So now im confused as to which relay runs the immobiliser as ive read this is probably the most common cause for the problems I am having plus the RAC chap put it down on his report. Its a VW part ive taken out so just need some confirmation that its the correct relay I have removed. Cheer s

Relay 167 is for the fuel pump, have you read this? Relay 30 IIRC powers a number of systems including engine management, not sure if it also powers the immobiliser, but if you've got a non-starting 2.3 petrol Galaxy, relay 30 is usually prime suspect and #1 item to eliminate as the cause.

Have you checked for feed out of the ignition switch?
If no power to starter I would be looking more at that as from what I can tell the 2 relays power fuel pump and fuel injectors so engine would crank but not fire.

I don't think the linked wiring diagram shows all of the circuits that relay 30 powers. If you look here it calls it a 'starter motor control unit'!

From my own experience at Ford a defective relay 30 can cause a non start condition where the dash lights would come on as normal with the ignition switched on but there was no crank and the diagnostic tester would be unable to communicate with the ECU.

Ford and VW part numbers for the relay are in this post.

Oh I see that's what happens when you see a partial drawing and make assumptions.
It's certainly worth popping a new one in to test it out then.
