Need help to get a key fob to lock and unlock the car, I have only got one key which is the spare.
Not sure if its RF or IR remote needed, my rear view mirror has a clear led/sensor on the front and back.
Anybody could recommend a cheap way of getting a new one or a company that can do it!
-
As it's a MKII I believe it's probably an RF remote (mine is). As it's a Ghia the led/sensors on the rear view mirror are probably for an auto dipping rear mirror (mine doesn't appear to work though).
I believe there are instructions in the owners manual and the FAQ of this site on 'pairing' the remote. They can unfortunately just stop working though.

Ok thanks, only need a key fob now. Where is the best place to get one?

Looks to be from £10-£60 with most being around £20 including postage this link may work for ebay completed listings --> http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ford+galaxy+remote+key+2&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_okw=&_oexkw=&_adv=1&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_ipg=200 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ford+galaxy+remote+key+2&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_okw=&_oexkw=&_adv=1&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_ipg=200)

Used keys about £8-£15 and refurbished keys with a blank £25-£70
-
i got mine of ebay for £40.00 remote and blank key then i had to get it cut and programed, most auto lock smiths do the lot for about £155.00 all in around here
-
try getting it cut at timpsons, they done mine, iirc about £8.
-
timpsons will only supply and cut blanks and not cut blanks supplied by yourself Due to copyright issues..

and how long has this farce been in then.
as they cut mine, which was bought from ebay.
so this is either a new rule of theirs,or you have an arse of bloke working there.
-
Been in for a while now mate - they wouldn't cut my ebay blank, not for copyright reasons (interesting?) but because they keep damaging the cutting machine as the ebay blanks aren't the correct thickness! I went back the next day (when oddly enough the blank was supplied from VW lol) and it did indeed do through the blank to leave a hole :(
-
well you learn something every day.
i must have been lucky then,i had no probs when they done mine, mind you that was a few years back now.
-
the chap who cut and programed my key said most blanks are from china on ebay and are a harder steel but poor quality!! which can wreck the cutting head with the first cut! ??? so beware
-
Does anyone know if you can use a two button flip key from vw?
-
Yes, BUT you'll need to match the frequency and make (HELLA / SIEMENS etc) VERY carefully as the systems aren't compatible. You'll then need to open it up and remove the VW transponder. You can then modify it to accept the Ford transponder and code it all together ;)
-
As I got my galaxy without a remote key fob how do you find out what frequency it uses or if it is seimans/hella?
-
Ahh, that'll be more awkward then :) You'll need someone with a similar vintage to give you the details of their key - there are only three types fitted (Mk1, Mk2 and late Mk2) so you should be able to get the info quite easily for your's
From memory I would suspect its a Siemens @ 434 MHZ
-
If this helps my MK2 52 reg AUY is a Siemens 433.92khz with these numbers, 5WK4 790/97/98
-
Possible may be the one, mine is an auy 02
