How big a job is it to replace clutch slave cylinder.

It's inside the clutch housing on the MKII diesels so I believe you have to take off the gearbox to do do.

Yes it's a gearbox out job.

I have done this twice now, it's straight forward but the gearbox is very heavy and unless you are strong or have a strong assistant it's a bloody nightmare!.  There is a lot of stuff to remove but it is all quite easy. Once refitted the slave cylinder needs bleeding which in itself can be a difficult job.  You will need a jack or stand to hold the engine in place whilst the gearbox is removed.

Had a bit of a nightmare with mine, gearbox off and the clutch and flywheel were caked in fluid. Released a lot of funds that "quick little job" did!
