So the FUX (Ironic) gearbox didn’t want to play!
« on: April 03, 2018, 07:47:49 PM »
If anyone’s had the problems (and I know there’s been plenty!)
I had my box rebuilt on Saturday for a totally reasonable cost of £270, replacing the bearings and main shaft, plus shims!

Not a bad price, and he hated the car with a passion!

I’ve never had the boxes apart or anything, but apparently it’s a pain to get the bearings out, especially the main shaft bearing?

But if anyone’s have trouble with clutch creep, seems like it’s losing clutch pressure, not selecting gears or it’s not even coming out of first, second or reverse, this may be a viable option!
Shimming the end shaft wasn’t an option as it didn’t cure the problem;
Changed bearings, main shaft & added shims, sorted!

I was dreading the its FUX’ed phonecall, but all good!
Thought I’d give it a few days run in before writing about it.

Cheers chaps!

A mechanic in Durham;
But if anyone needed any work doing, I’d be happy to recommend him on if he said it was okay!

Do you need some work doing like Mike?

Not at the moment - I would usually do it myself but that's a pretty good price for such a full overhaul.  The retail price of the parts couldn't have been much less!
