Howdy!!

My guess is 150 miles per week x 52 weeks x 15p per mile = £1,170

A.K.A. TOO MUCH!!

I bet all that fuel only cost them like £50 to get out of the ground and send to the pumps!!!!
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

As I couldnt remember the last time I put fuel in, I've been going over bank statements
out of curiosity
and going by the amount reckon I probably filled up on February the 6th spending £73.31

Due to this crazy year, I've only done 133 miles since the MOT on June 13th and while it's
getting low now, probably wont need to refill until next month.

Like everybody else really looking forward to getting back to something like normal
and going off on some jollies again

I'd be surprised if the battery was still charged at that!

In fact, just checked and I've gone through nearly twice that amount of money just this month in fuel...

In the last couple of years I've been averaging about 18000 miles a year in the Galaxy, in 2020 it was only about 11000 due to covid but that still equated to over £1600 of fuel  ???

2019:
Tiguan did 13,291
Galaxy did 4,991

2020:
Tiguan did 1,192
Galaxy did 812

Slightly skewed as we got a pug 107 to potter about in just before it all kicked off but still! Thing is its offset, I may have saved on Diesel but the gas, electricity and water bills have all gone up due to working at home - Still better off though!

Talking of low mileages, anyone had an insurance refund?  I just renewed (for the Mondeo; Galaxy is in wife's name - insurance for it is lower than Mondeo) and, going from 15,000 to 5,000 miles p.a./no business use I was only offered a ~£25 reduction.  Not impressed, especially as some companies were refunding more than that for existing policies.

I got £25 back on each of the 4 policies I had active over last year (renewing in May). The insurance for the Galaxy is cheaper than the slightly older Focus I've got on the same mileage. Though go figure this one, the 4.0l Discovery 2 I've got is also slightly cheaper than the Focus as well.....

Likewise I got £25 back on three policies, and £30 back on the Van so can't complain.

Nothing forthcoming from the breakdown companies though!

Did you have to prove the mileage you have done is far less than normal?

No, didn't have to speak to them in my case it was automatic across the board (Admiral).

This year I've cut the mileage down anyway (though its still what some would regard as high as its 10k currently), and the Galaxy was Sorn until September. The policy to put that back on the road was cheap (very cheap - something like £70 extra it worked out to add it back onto multicar policy for the remainder of the policy). The road tax cost far more for it!

Car insurance adverts are funny old things.

The Admiral ones are quite strange, taking their name so literally and using that as the theme for their advert.

Then there's the one with that funny dog.

And that one with the red telephone on wheels.

They all seem to go for abstract themes, really quite fascinating.

Is there a risk the fuel might go bad. Could you take the car for a run and maybe fill it up with some premium fuel just to help keep everything fresh.

That's definitely a problem with petrol.  Not heard of it with diesel - at least, not for the time periods we are dealing with at the moment.

It's more of a problem where the fuel is open to the air as well, I've had petrol in the tank for over a year and it's still fine. Leave it in something like a mower and you can find it turns bad, particularly if it can get exposed to water. It helps that the fuel gets turned over in the tank on a car too.
