Tyres

Does anyone here have experience of a company called "Baig" tyres they are selling a new set of 4 'Unigrip' Galaxy Tyres (215 55 R16 97W XL) for 133.75 with free delivery !! seems a great deal.

Specs seem correct and the price is good but I've no experience of that brand and that price for 4 tyres (especially as wide as these) seems a little too cheap to be honest. I wouldn't risk it personally but that's just me.

EDIT: I seem to have misread your original post, is Baig tyres the company selling them and Unigrip the brand?

So, it's been a year since these were fitted to the old gal. I've travelled 12,000 faultless miles with these tyres  pressures keep fine even wear, (rears look new still) and front have about 3.5mm left on the front so for me when the time comes i'll definitely buy another set.

Not bad mileage out the fronts then? I have done 10k on mine and they are just about dead.

I've used almost exclusively Michelins since about 1999.  Mostly Primacy but at the moment Crossclimate.  Rotated regularly.  I get anything up to 50K (miles) out of a set.  I would be disappointed with less than 40.  The Crossclimates looked bad at first but they are now looking to stay the distance.

Admittedly, to do this I drive at my own pace and do a lot of anticipatory driving.  No swerving, heavy braking or acceleration - if I want to do that sort of thing I need two fewer wheels. 8-)

I tried some "budgets" - decidedly queasy in wet weather and gone in about 15K.  Never again.

How on earth is it possible to get 50k out of a set? I have never done more than 20k on any tyre I have ever had.

No heavy acceleration, no heavy braking, anticipating traffic moves.  It's not difficult but you have to give up the "I'm faster than you" attitude (or even the "I must keep up" one) at the traffic lights and cultivate one of "where can I save fuel?".  The tyres come as a bonus.

The Crossclimates went on at almost exactly 110,000miles a year gone February and are now just approaching 160,000.  They won't see 170,000, sadly, so I'm probably going back to Primacys.  Just trying to weigh up if they will get me to south east Poland before I have to change them.  Tyres will probably be cheaper there but I will have to take currency fees into account and I'm not sure I can be bothered.  Plus there's a lot of high speed miles between here and there.....

Hats off to you getting such decent tyre life,I don't drive like a lunatic but certainly not as sensible as you.... having said that I can't imagine the galaxy or my x type estate could manage anywhere near that much no matter how driven.

The MkIV estate (same floor pan as the X-type) wears out the tyres equally.  My previous MkII hatch would noticeably wear the front more, as you would expect, but the estate balances them out.  Had four wheel check done the moment I realised what was going on, about four years ago, but all to specification. Bizarre.

The rears on the x type wear on inner edge had new tyres, new top and bottom control arms then 4 wheel alignment it still has slight neg camber on tears and tyres still wearing on inner edge.

Crossclimates managed both ways and still have life!  I'm really quite surprised.  Odd noise on motorways, now, though.  Sounds like the beginning of bearing failure but it changes with surface.

It looks like the slightly blocky tread has rapid wear at first which then slows as the blocks wear down.  Might even manage to 170k but not if the weather gets bad this winter.
