Upgrade Instrument Cluster
« on: September 03, 2015, 05:34:43 pm »
Hi,
New on this forum, should be happy to find a solution here speaking to Galaxy masters.
Ok so, i have a ford galaxy 2004 TDi 130 ASZ
I'm trying to upgrade my Instrument cluster
Because my half display MFA Fade in Hot days.
Find it is a bit expensive to repair.

Then i bought a new cluster from Alhambra with 6 dials for a piece of cake.
Whaoo, new cluster give more
Red illumination, not bad !
220>260 KMH even if i don't drive so quick !
2 dials more, batt voltage and Oil temp
Distance to empty, even if i mod the old one to have it.
and finaly also A BIG FIS DISPLAY and not fade...

So here are Cluster codes :
Old one's galaxy 7M5 920 820Q V60
New one's alhambra 7M7 920 840LX V59

Unplug old and plug new one's, ok
Loading (Read/Write) same cluster coding with VCDS from GAL "13101" to ALHAM "21121">>>"13101"
Language adaptation with VCDS, ok
Loading KM total "0' to "263000km"
Everything is working good except :
1-Speedo dials always 0 !
2-Fuel Gauge moving strangely and give me "fuel refill please"
3-Not fitted yet oil Temp sensor so no dial... (green connector C169 pin 18, is it good ?)

I heard that other people here had also replace cluster for 6 dials one's. But cannot find enought information for it.

I find that many dials are connected to the Can H and L to move... (green connector C169 pin 19 and 20.
I can imagine coding need to be changed in ECU or in Cluster to match with speed dial.

Please let me know how did you do speedo working with 6 Dials ???
(I'm able to read/write memorys with VCDS/VAGTACHO/MPPS/WINOL if you tell me the way)

Waiting for a specialist...
Vincent

Hi again
Ok so
after 4 days fighting with that cluster and no way...
Just find today the solution.

Extract bin file .eep with VAGTACHO from both instrument cluster via OBD socket.
Read files with hex editor and compare adress $64 $65
If you have 0C82 replace for 0C83, or other side...
This give the adress for speed dials.
Change, save, and reload in the cluster.

I dont know at time if this is because i swap from Galaxy to Alhambra cluster(and speed code in bus is diferent brand to brand)
Or from 1/2 LCD MFA to full FIS (or maybe adress depend of LCD Type MFA/FIS)

Very hard to find but now cluster is sooo nice, and working good. :P
Enjoy !
Vincent

Good work Vincent and thanks for sharing!

I do remember fiddling a LOT with the eep's to get mine all working correctly. IIRC there are three variants for the speed pulse depending on year. One with a low pulse from the gearbox sensor, one with a high pulse and one with no pulse but ABS input.

03 Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDI 115 Ghia in Spruce Green Metallic
With cream leather interior, Full Bodykit, Remapped at 145bhp, Lowered on 18's
08 Ford Transit 2.2 TDI 115 in Frozen White
With retrofitted everything except another slidey door! :)

Hi,
Thanks for reply.
I am happy with this new cluster.
Last thing to manage is oïl temp sensor, but i am not sur to use it like that.
Seems to have troubles with sensor not long life.
So, and also i project to try to use it for turbo pressure.
Maybe an other hard job...

I only know that my cluster take to speed pulse on the main bus cause when i disconnect the 2 wires on green connector i lost almost things on cluster and also speed pulse...

I saw other direct inputs for speed but no wire...

So this way if somebody have replace cluster try to change eep OC82 to 0C83... or other side if Alhambra to galaxy cluster... Maybe also sharan same...

Next time a picture when i have time to take it.
Best regards from France

Hi

I replace Galaxy instuments to Sharan 6 clock, display bigger and very cool but speedometer values is wrong because car run on 40km/h the speedometer shows ~70km/h.

I would like try Vincent's suggestions, will be working? Or requires another modification as well ?

Thank You

This looks really difficult, I wonder if there are specialists out there who sell reconditioned instrument clusters that are pre configured with the correct settings for your vehicle
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all.

Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

I'm become a new specialist :) I can fix is speed issue, really works 0C 8x address, but on my instrument the "82" value the good solution. Lower value, example 80 there is big delay..

And I added fixed background lighing to clocks as well :)

==> The next, OIL temp guage, because this is not displaying real temperature.

I also changed the speed signal value on mine, have a Galaxy 1.9tdi and changed the cluster to the 6 dial from a Sharan, what an upgrade! :) so much nicer to look at, really think it makes the car 10 years younger ;)

Do you have the G266 sensor in the oil pan? This sends both the oil temp for the dial in the cluster and the oil level if you switch on the low oil level warning light.
I dont think much Galaxys have this sensor, mines a Ghia and didnt have it, so i fitted this myself, and made the wiring from sensor to cluster..

yes, I have made many modification already on my wife car, I attach a picture for study

Existing this sensor , and VAG-Com displaying actual oil temperature in realtime. I read many documentation and i know i need buy a VCDS cable, because requires the long coding for working oil temp guage in this type. I will continue  developments in next year ;-)

If you got the sensor already, open VCDS, open controller 17 - instruments, open 07 - coding, and alter the 4th digit in the software coding to a 2 = fixed service interval W. Oil level/temp sensor
