V reg galaxy bogging on acceleration and black smoke
« on: August 10, 2016, 05:12:49 pm »
Recently purchased 1.9tdi 110 galaxy and everything was fine for a few days. Yesterday cut out on starting/idle after dumping black smoke from exhaust. Friend suggested fuel filter so I changed it and all seemed fine. Took for good run and was running sweet. Then started again today and idle fine drive fine for 10 mins or so then started bogging down in 1st/2nd and lots black smoke again. Then seemed to clear itself again then a few minutes later it happened again. Someone has suggested maf. Don't wanna keep throwing money at it without pin pointing the problem first. Any help would be appreciated

If you suspect maf try running with unplugged vag diesels run ok with it not connected so will give idea if it's at fault.

Best thing is to get vcds plugged in though as that will give you any fault codes and also check measure blocks to see what sensors are doing.
Black smoke is over fuelling so could be lack of air or too much fuel, poss other causes coolant temp sensor incorrect readings, collapsing boost pipe restricting air to inlet?

check the state of the air filter as well. put it out and try and also unplug the MAF and go for a run you will notice a massive decrease in power so you'll know if working or not

Had another suggestion of egr so that's gonna be my first port of call. Take it off clean it up and check pipe coming from it in case sorted up also. Also have ordered code reader so will give that a go when it turns up

just use a brake and clutch sprayable cleaner on the egr . remove the spring retainer clip and remove for access give it a spray and a wipe inside.make sure the valve stem operates etc . i used a mirror to look in mine so i could see. let your spray cleaner evaporate properly and re-assemble. all good. also whack a good brand turbo/egr cleaner through the fuel system and do 100 miles or so and a good boot down the road...always do the easy before going full in.

hi.. you have no problem starting engine and idle is ok .. so that is mean the egr valve in closed position.. i suggest to disconnect the rubber pipe(vacume pipe) from the egr ..lock it with bolt ..now the egr valve in closed position..with this applied take the car for a wee run.. if there are no any issues ..then that is mean the egr valve struggles opening and closing at some points causing these issues..i hope this helps.

Yes that's a ve with electronic fuel injection pump not a PD.

Not sure about the egr on them but it's defo different to the PD as I cannot see it where boost pipe enters the inlet.

Have you tried unplugging the maf yet?

Just had a thought those engines can suffer with map sensor issues due to split hose.
Unfortunately the map is inside the ecu and requires instrument cluster removing to get ecu out.
Might be worth a look if nothing else is found wrong.
