« on: July 16, 2016, 10:34:18 PM »

I've managed to get the software installed from downloading it from rosstech but still keeps coming up with no controller found. want to get it working cos just about to replace the a/c pump due to the rivets coming away from the clutch unit and would like to give the old Gal a thorough once over.
any help gratefully appreciated.

Have you installed the driver for interface lead? And have you checked and set the com port?

In that case it's probably not compatible with win 10, of you buy another one double check details to make sure it works on later versions of Windows.

I couldn't get VagCom to work under Windows 10, however i did get VCDS to work.

This is how i got it to work on a new PC, and one i did an upgrade on.

If you did a free upgrade, you will need to uninstall VCDS along with the cables drivers in device manager.

Then (or if you didnt upgrade) I right clicked the .exe file for the USB lead driver, properties, find compatibility tab and select Windows 7.

Do the same for VCDS lite installation file.

If you didnt get a .exe file for the USB lead drivers, once attaching the lead go to device manager find the cable (prob has a yellow triangle) right click, click update driver software, then point to the driver location. This has to be a unzipped file.
If you lead came with drivers for Windows XP/7 or Windows 8.1 use Windows 8.1

If VCDS lite is still having issues once installed, right click the icon on the desktop icon and select Windows 7 under compatibility.

I was going to install vcds, when I saw this thread.  Since ross-tech have released v16.8, do I still need to go through the above procedures to get it working?

16.8 is the latest release for genuine vcds cables, since most on here opt for the 10 chinease copies from ebay they'll be using the much older, often cracked, aoftware.

On that note I would urge anyone who does a lot of home mechanics to invest in the proper lead and support instead of the enay knock offs. Granted its a lot more expensive but works perfectly without having any of these 'connection' issues I keep seeing being discussed.

Hi, when the rivets went on my clutch, I bought a 2nd hand compressor and clutch. I only changed the clutch, not the compressor which meant I didn't have to have the A/C regassed. Saves money all round and means you can do the job yourself.

I agree with you 100% mirez regarding purchasing the proper lead, but for those of us whom simply want to diagnose problems, it's not within most of our budgets.

I've purchased a KKL 409.1 cable and your spot-on as it's a pain the backside to get it to work.

Having said that, would you know what the best operating system is for the KKL409.1 with regards to compatibility and usb drivers?

KKL 409.1 typically works best on XP.
However, some also work on 7.

If you pay 20 vs 10 you can typically find on that work with 10.
Not only that some of the cheaper cables dont actually have the KKL chip, which causing a huge rigmarole.

The main trick with 10 is not to let Windows find the drivers online as i find only a generic driver is installed rather than the one for the lead.

Thats how mine is work, however cant find the bloody link.

Pay cheap, pay twice

I am currently using vcd lite with a cable off of ebay.

What is the latest version of VCD that will work with a 2006 Ford Galaxy MKII and genuine cable if I decide to go down that route and where Is the best place to purchase.

Should I be able to clear codes with the free version of vcd lite?

Can't comment on best one to buy I have a cheap eBay one registered with Ross tech and it works just fine.

And yes you should be able to clear codes with lite version you just can access all the measure blocks and adaptions etc.

VCDS is backward compatible so they will all work with the Galaxy. If you have any other VAG car, lr plan on getting one, then go for the hex\can cable as it supports all current models. Avoid the HEX-NET cable as whilst convenient, its limited to 10 VIN plates  ???

I think there are two UK re-sellers, I bought mine from http://www.gendan.co.uk/

Any suggestions on how to get these cheap KKL 409.1 cables working with windows 10 + vcds?  Mine seems to be a hit & miss. The drivers on the cd seem to be useless and windows 10 tends to install it's own drivers.  Also what version of vcds is everyone using on these 409.1 cables?

Im using 1.2 on 10 with 409.1 cable

I have found the cables that don't have the FT232BL chip can be a bit of a swine to get working with 10.
A few ebay sellers say they do have this chip, but actualy dont.

There is a post somewhere where johnnyroper sent a link to the relevant cable I have. Just cant find it.

If 10 is automatically installing the driver, the best thing to do would be to disconnect from the internet, go to device manager, right click the cable and uninstall the drivers (make sure u select delete driver). Do a hardware scan and when it attempts to install the driver it should prompt you to point to the driver location as Windows update has no relevant drivers.

My lappy is currently down, and my broadband wont be connected for a few days. As soon as i get it all up and running ill double check.

Forgot to mention,

If you driver CD doesnt have a 10 driver, use the 8.1 if not 8 or 7. 8.1 is the closest driver to 10.
