VW Sharan remote key not working
« on: December 04, 2019, 05:12:31 PM »
Hello guys. I have a 2005 VW Sharan. I needed to change the fusebox (pictures above)as mine was defective, and after replacing my bad fuse box with an identical one, the 2 remote keys that I have, are not working anymore. I can open and close the car when I insert the key in the door, I can start the car no problem, but I cant open or close the car with any of the keys. before finding a good fuse box, I disconected the car battery for 1 week, if it's important. the remote keys has good batteries, as I can see the led when I press the buttons. What can I do to make the remotes work again with the car?Thank you.

Do you have an owners handbook for the vehicle? It sounds like you may simply need to reprogramme the remote keys to the vehicle. I can't imagine that the procedure would differ much to the Galaxy, which is outlined in the below article if you've not already seen it:

https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-common-faults-and-problems/ford-galaxy-remote-key-locking-programming-and-information-(mk2)/

If you have an owners handbook the procedure is likely described in it, worth checking in case it differs to the Galaxy though I'd think they'd be pretty similar.

Hello. I don't have an owners manual for the car, it never had one... tried the remote again, and I just realized one more thing: the hazards does not flash when I lock and unlock the car with the key in the door, and the red led (the alarm led)on the door does not work. it does not lights up with the car closed, it does not work when I try to program the keys( no light at all on that led). the programming did not work. I will scan the car with VCDS tomorrow and see if there are any fault codes.

No idea how VW remotes are programmed but have you tried keying in to ignition on without starting and pressing buttons in remote fob?
Works on some marques so may or may not work on vw but worth a try

Today I made a few tests, run a scan with VCDS and here are all the problems I found:
- I can't close or open the car with the remote (just with the key in the door);
- when I close or open the car with the key in the door, the hazards does not light up;
- when the car is locked, the small red alarm led does not light up;
- the bulb in the buttom of the door (the interior light on the driver door) stays on all the time, even with the car locked. It turns off when I start the car.
- with the key out of the ignition, with the drivers door open, I can open the glass on that door (this should not be possible).
After I scanned the car with VCDS, there were no problems or faults found. I even checked all the fuses. I run an ,,Output Test,, on ,,Central Electrics,,, and there I can make the alarm led turn on, and I can turn off the interior light on the door (on conumption cutoff, or something like that). What could be the problem, I realy don't know what else to check?

With those kind of symptoms, it sounds like there may be an issue with broken or shorted wiring in the driver's door wiring loom (although this doesn't really explain why you can make the immobiliser LED and door marker lamp turn off with VCDS)- fairly common and can cause a variety of symptoms. More info in the below link:

Why did you need to replace the fuse box in the first place?

I checked the wiring loom and no sign of broken wires. I had to change it because since when I bought the car, one of the fuses melted to the socket,and made replacing it impossible. when the particular fuse went bad, I had to change all the fuse box, as I did not wanted to improvise and cause other problems. but now there is this problem...

If it is only doing it since you replaced fuse box then it can only be related to that.
Replacement part faulty
Replacement part needs programming
Or something not connected properly.

I'd agree with the above, and suggest you check the green connector on the front - Remove the plug from the connector and check none of the pins are bent being the main check. (The green connector if i remember correctly is the one you tap into if you want to add remote locking where it isn't already on the car) The only other thing i can think of is if you have managed to pull the connector to the door loom as its possible for bits of that connector to come out of the main housing. Is this a lefthand drive car btw? It shouldn't make any difference as i would guess the drivers side loom is close to the fusebox either way though having not seen a lefthand drive it may have slight differences which have an effect.

If that doesn't work, put your old one back in place and see if the fault goes away, if so you can rule the fault out of being anything other than the fusebox either being faulty or needing some sort of coding. I know the fusebox does a bit more than just supply power as the controller for most of the timer functions is on there, as well as the indicators module. obviously when your doing that, check the connectors as you go just in case you find your fault there.

With your VCDS scan what modules did you scan, you've not mentioned any faults so would assume you have none, if you have the full version it might be worth doing a full scan and seeing what comes back if anything.

Also - The VW key i have says its a 434Mhz key, The Ford keys I have show 433.92Mhz your fusebox shows 433.92Mhz. What does your old fusebox show on the sticker?

Sharan and Ford frequencies are the same, 433 is just the lazy way they wrote it for the label.

Check the programming of the box, sounds like its not got remote locking enabled. Whats the softcode for your new box?

got it working after I have driven the car for 50 km. I think the car battery was weak, as it was not driven for almost a month. it works now.
