Yesterday I drove through a flooded ford, it was little deeper than expected. Probably about 30-40cm deep.
I probably should have gone slower but I was worried about stalling so went about 10 to 15mph. Anyway this resulted in water coming up over the nose of the sharan, so much so that it flowed up over the bonnet and I couldn't see out through the windscreen for a moment.
All seemed ok with the car after this, until I parked up. I locked the doors as usual and then about 5 mins later the alarm started going off.
Also when I drove it again the interior lights ( which are set to come on then a door is opened) started randomly coming on and off, this was accompanied by frantic relay clicking noise from behind the fusebox which is under steering wheel by drivers door.
I am guessing water has got into some electrics but not sure where to look, it definitely didn't come up as high as the fuse box under steering wheel, it did not come into cabin at all as far as I can tell.
Does anyone here know where I should start to look to dry things out. Are there any electrics/wiring that is low down in engine bay that might have got a soaking.

Do you live near any cobblestone streets you could slowly drive along, to possibly shake the water out a bit?

Also could you park in direct sunlight, maybe with the bonnet open, to give it a good airing?

Also maybe warm the car up and put the heating on with AC enabled to suck any moisture out of the inside?

Thank goodness water didn't get into the air filter and sucked into the engine!

Hmm.. it kinda did you know, even if only for a brief period

That's higher than most of the important electrical systems

I'm not saying and cant say where it actually got to of course but
just suggest you dont make any assumptions and do as much drying out as you can.

As well as getting the motor fully warmed up with the heater on as per Davids suggestion,
to dry out the engine bay and cabin
I'd be lifting carpets,checking the drain under the wipers and using rags, hair dryer etc
to try and remove/dispel moisture from electrical assemblies
 
None or few of the electrical components inside the car have been designed to withstand water ingress
I've drained water out of a relay housing before and you'd be surprised where it can creep in so
close inspection and switch cleaner may help.
WD40 is a lubricant/repellent, I never use it on electrical stuff unless it's for a final overcoat
to proper ingress protection.

The most likely place its got to will be the door switches that operate the lights - either on the main car doors, or in the boot latch itself. I'd open the boot and check the drains on the door are clear, and then go round each of the doors and see if one of them has got a switch that appears to be the source of your issues. Also if its come up over the windscreen level, your liklely to have a load stuck in the scuttle area if the drains there are blocked, this can cause problems with leakage later so is worth a check at least.

Also a good suggestion above to stick the A/C on and set to hot, but set it to recirc at the same time, this should pull out most of the moisture given long enough to run via the a\c drain. It only takes a hole you don't know about for it to soak the back of the carpet and you might not even notice it if its something like a bung underneath thats come out of its hole or not sealed as well as it was when new. Check the scuttle and pollen filter before doing that though, as if you have a load of water there you want to get rid of that first (even with it set on recirc, else you will dry it out only to draw more damp air in next time!)

The usual places for wire issues are the passenger side footwell (take the trim off round the bottom of the door and check its dry there) and the door gaiters. It could of course be coincidence and you have an issue with the wires in the doors occour at the same time, though I'd think unlikely I suspect the boot wiring might be able to break and cause that. Would think its more likely the rear end got soaked as you left the ford as it would have been quite low down at that point.

Crack windows an inch and stick a fan heater in there for the day,fold down a rear seat and put heater on there. But as above check scuttle/pollen filter area first.

Just to update.

I have let the car air inside and left bonnet open for a day, checked the scuttle drains and these are all clear and dry, passenger footwell is dry too.

The car seems fine now, so whatever got wet must have dried out.
