« on: September 19, 2014, 10:35:20 AM »
Hia All,

Im looking for info on a 07 2.0l Petrol S max please. I have seen one for sale, but would like to know, if they suffer from common faults? if so what to look for.

Thanks in advance :)

I stopped working as a technician for Ford before the S-Max/Mk3 Galaxy appeared so I can't be of much help with this, the 2 litre petrol engine used in the S-Max and Galaxy would appear to be the Duratec-HE Ford lump (with chain driven cams) as used in the 2000 on Mondeo so it's been around a while and should be well proven as long as it's been looked after. The bushes for the rear suspension can deteriorate at higher mileages and the design of the suspension is fairly complex, plus it all tends to seize together with age, the 'rocket thruster' type handbrake levers can cause trouble (if it's not been sorted already)........

That's all the help I can be, there will obviously be other model specific faults but that's about all I can say. Ultimately, there's always a degree of chance involved with any used (and new for that matter!) car depending on how it's been treated and looked after.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

I had a2.0 petrol s max never gave me much problems the biggest problem was the exhaust went I had to buy a complete system fitted it myself cost 500 pounds trade kwik fit wanted nearly 1000 the exhaust for the diesels are much cheaper cos there more popular, had it 5yrs so couldn't complain too much.
