brake vibration problem ???
« on: May 31, 2015, 07:53:42 pm »
hi guys, right having a problem with vibration when under barking,i would say it feels like a disk warp??no other vibrations on the car AT ALL,nothing under load/acceleration.
took to a local garage done a visual check and jacked the front up and checked to see if anything is loose, joints felt all ok.even got him to drive the car and do a few emergency stops.still works like youve thrown an anchor out.
he said apart from being bloody annoying that its safe to drive.
so what do you guys think it could be?

cheers in advance.

Are the front wheels and tyres in decent nick- no uneven wear/ sawtoothing on the tyre tread and no damage/ buckles to the rims? And how worn are the brake discs/pads- is there much of a ridge or any grooving/rust on either side of the working faces of the discs? Were they changed long ago?

the guy said that theres approx(without measuring)8 - 10 thousand miles on the pads, and the disks are in good condition.
as said he jacked the car up and spun the front wheels no binding at all nothing loose, the only thing he said was he reckoned i should put a few more lbs of pressure in the front tyres as there wearing on the outside edge.
ive never changed them.but iirc when i bought the car and rung up fords in tunbridge wells the guy said it had loads of work done on it every few weeks because the mileage was racking up(100k in 3 years)and i do seem to remember apart from having a new aircon compressor it had new disks and pads.its now on 116k so ive put 16k on it in 4 years.

given me an idea though,i do have a full size spare i think ill shove that on and see it it gets any better.

If nothing's been disturbed at the front end and the vibration has just started to occur recently then it could simply be the way the brake discs and pads have worn, especially if they're nearing the end of their life. You could try a front to rear wheel swap to see if it makes any difference to eliminate wheels and tyres as a cause?

P.S, did you mean the pads have done an estimated 8-10k or that there was an estimated 8-10k left in them?

Try a new set of discs and pads first as they are not that expensive . I just had this on a BMW and it turned out to be the drop links though hth.

well it was the front disks, they were warped so new 1s fitted with pads, rear pads as they were right down also new brake fluid  and 2 tyres and aircon checked.
wallet now raped to the tune of £430. [CRY] [CRY]

but she drives lovely now.

1 question about the aircon, they put it on there special machine that supposedly does everything and it removed iirc 790 and put back 690,so i asked had it been overfilled before then?they said could well of been?
as far as i can make out its no colder then before, pretty much the same in my eyes.

Having extra gas (over what's specified) doesn't increase the system efficiency, though not having enough gas can reduce it. Having said that, if it was only 100g difference then that's not a massive amount. Is there a sticker in the engine bay area which tells you how much gas should be in the system? I'm assuming that'd be the 690g they put back in?
