Rear of engine on drivers side, not a simple job on those engines to clean inlet manifold and turbo need to come off to get at it. If you are gonna go to the trouble of doing that I would replace it as wouldn't want to do all that work, clean it and then find out its knackered.

Make a blanking plate and stick it in between the EGR and engine.  About an hour's work for total eradication of problem.  Stops stuttering when pulling away, as well.  Only downside is longer warmup time.  Takes me about 7 miles to reach midpoint on the temp gauge.

the reason i ask - car started juddering when in 3rd gear at normal speed, then again when pulling away before going into limp mode and throwing out a P1335 fault code. started back up fine and got home not problem. Doesnt idle rough (that i notice) though?

Try clearing code and giving it an Italian tune up, keep in a lower gear to keep revs high to build temp up and blow the crap out. If it comes back again looks like a strip down required

Put your details into ETIS and see what the build date is.  Early 1.8 Lynx units had duff Siemens injectors, whose coil insulation will intermittently break down under load.  The cutoff date was somewhere around  mid 08/08 but it's entirely possible that older engines were affected.

The only cure is injector replacement.  The good news is that older or newer injectors will work.

To see if your injectors are affected, see if there is a number printed on the body (not the top of the cap) that ends in 3.  If so, or if they are too rusty to see, you need to source a set of injectors from before or after and try them.

Update; egr valve cleaned, not blocked. Had error code for injector 3 P1203,  open circuit/short. This injector is brqnd new, installed about 3 months ago. Mechanic said he has now coded in the injector and the fault has cleared(he tried wiring before but code came back, but cleared onve he put injector code into ecu/pcm. Does this sound right? If injector wasnt coded in?

Yeah if wasn't coded in it will cause issues with ford diesels.

Thats good then. I'm getting paranoid that it will come back but that should solve it hopefully.
