ETIS
« on: August 23, 2020, 08:25:19 PM »
I assume most know of ETIS.

(Go to https://www.etis.ford.com/ and either log in or register as an independent.  Use your real name and phone number and your email and a password for access.  Don't worry about references to charging - this is for if you want access to manuals and suchlike and has to be done upfront.  You will not be charged for what I am talking about.)

If you then do a vehicle lookup, you will get a page with the basics of your vehicle top right and a drop down menu of minor features below it.  This is your vehicle with all the build options provided when new.  The language of this list is rather contradictory and confusing.  For example, on my own vehicle:

    •  Less Dress Up RSO
    •  (-) SVP

RSO?  SVP?  I don't have them, whatever they are.

 Less Rear Quarter Window
Are there quarter windows on some rear windows?

 Less Headlining
Well, I certainly don't have bare metal but is this one due to:
With Roof Conversion-Panorama Roof

Less Door Trim Panel Insert
?

This:
    •  Less LH Lumbar Support
    •  Less RH Lumbar Support
but then this:
    •  With Drivers Manual Lumbar Support
    •  With Passengers Man Lumbar Support

And:
 Less Passenger Seat

Drv Seat Back Fold Down Table
OK but there's one on the back of the passenger seat (that I don't have) as well, plus:
Tray/Table - Front Seat      is this the glovebox lid?

 Less Rear Centre Headrest
Oh no, it isn't.

 Less Front Bumper Sensor Device
Except....
 With Front Parking Aid

Then there's:
    •  Less Navigation System
    •  Less Navigation Disk
but....
 Navigation Data - Western Europe
 Navigation Level 2 - DVD

Lots of other stuff that makes no sense:
 Less Heater
 Less Rear Seat Belt Mountings
and acronyms (SIP, VP) with no explanation.

Some stuff is plain wrong:
Less Electronic Speed Limitation

Anyway, does anyone speak ETIS?  It would be good to make sense of all of this, even if it is some corporatespeak version of sense only applicable to Ford.

I forgot the best one:
 7000 RPM Tachometer

lol, yeah it can be a little challenging to navigate them but fortunately I am almost Fluent in Etis :D

I   •  Less Dress Up RSO
    •  (-) SVP

RSO used to be RSAP in Mondeo world, stands for Rally Sport Option (Rally Sport Appearance Pack). Basically a bodykit, No Mk3 has this option, Mk2's did though.
SVP - Special Vehicle Preparation. Means the vehicle was destined for something like a Taxi or Police Car and would have different looms for their setup.

Less Rear Quarter Window
Are there quarter windows on some rear windows?
I would assume that one refers to rear power opening quarter windows. Most likely because you have electric ones so you don't have fixed ones.

Quote
Less Headlining
Well, I certainly don't have bare metal but is this one due to:
With Roof Conversion-Panorama Roof
Yes, without standard headlining with panoramic roof assembly

Quote
Less Door Trim Panel Insert
?
Most likely that's an option, maybe as part of the SVP but more likely something you either had to pay for or wasn't available in the UK.

Quote
    •  Less LH Lumbar Support
    •  Less RH Lumbar Support
but then this:
    •  With Drivers Manual Lumbar Support
    •  With Passengers Man Lumbar Support
Without electronic lumbar support on both seats, with manual lumbar support on both seats.

Quote
And:
 Less Passenger Seat
See next item:

Quote
Drv Seat Back Fold Down Table
OK but there's one on the back of the passenger seat (that I don't have) as well, plus:
Tray/Table - Front Seat      is this the glovebox lid?
The passenger seat on some folds flat to become a table for the driver. This, in combination with the one above, means you don't have a normal seat fitted but the folding table seat instead. Then you have the fold down tray on the drivers seat.

Quote
Less Rear Centre Headrest
Oh no, it isn't.
Likely without full size rear centre headrest, you'll have the mini headrest to aid rear vision instead.

Quote
Less Front Bumper Sensor Device
Except....
 With Front Parking Aid
You have front park assist but don't have the front sensor for adaptive cruise or PCA - pedestrian collision avoidance

Quote
Then there's:
    •  Less Navigation System
    •  Less Navigation Disk
but....
 Navigation Data - Western Europe
 Navigation Level 2 - DVD
Looks like you have the more integrated nav unit with HVAC control built in rather then a standalone navigation unit (like a radio)

Quote
Lots of other stuff that makes no sense:
 Less Heater
 Less Rear Seat Belt Mountings
and acronyms (SIP, VP) with no explanation.
Without overnight parking heater
Without seatbelt mountings built into the chassis (they'll be part of the seat instead)
Need context for SIP
VP normally stands for Vehicle Preparation

Quote
Some stuff is plain wrong:
Less Electronic Speed Limitation
Means you aren't electronically limited, ie the 155mph governor fitted by EU law although can also be a 70mph limited when fitted to commercial vehicles. Typically you won't see this on most passenger cars unless they have a big-boy engine fitted :)

Quote
I forgot the best one:
 7000 RPM Tachometer
Would indicate the petrol tachometers fitted, not the diesel one. Is yours petrol? Could also be if you have Convers digital dash with analogue tach.

A lot of ETIS is like a digital ticksheet, ie you either have it or don't have it. Remember its used as the build sheet so it'll tell the production line what they need to fit, remove or modify which is why it seems a little contradictory.

That is _exceptionally_ useful; many thanks.  I do have the Converse+ and analogue gauges.  The tacho goes to 6000, which would be mucho fun with the PSA TDCI lump fitted - although not as much as 7000....

These are the items either side of SIP

    •  Less Dress Up RSO
    •  (-) SVP
    •  Less Safety Packs
    •  Less SIP
    •  Less Memory Package
    •  Exterior Paint - Solid

Another weirdness:  HID headlights but no DRLs.  I thought they were required after 2011?

SIP most probably relates to Side Impact Protection. Do you have side curtain airbags? Possibly related to that, not sure tbh.

Common misconception with DRLs, they became mandatory on all new DESIGNS from 2011. Meaning that current models being sold at the time didnt require them to be retrofitted but as soon as the manufacturer replaced the model or facelifted it, they were required to add DRLs at that point.

Regarding DRLs, I found that if I just leave the headlights switched on all the time then the car doesn’t beep when I turn it off and the lights just come on automatically when I switch it on

The Alhamb has a huge battery (110Ah) so seems to handle everything brilliantly
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all.

Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

I think it does have side airbags but maybe SIP is the internal bars across the doors.  Don't appear to have a fold-flat passenger seat.  Nothing in the driver's manual, either.

Might have to search for 8way adjustable seats, as the present 2way requires my wife to bend in a way that her damaged spine really doesn't like to move the seat back and forth.  Heated would be good, too.  I may even go and enquire about the cost of retrofitting memory seats.

Yes, I thought it was standard but lots of stuff doesn't seem to be the way Ford paperwork says it should be.  For example, the Galaxy sales brochure says that a panoramic roof should come with side blinds.  Not on this one, although the roof has blinds.

I am hoping that, being a top line model, all of the wiring for most of the potential extras will be present in the main harnesses.  If I install heated/cooled seats, it looks like I will need the fascia around the handbrake, which seems to be where the switches would be located.  No blank plugs in mine.

On another tack, the radio/cd/satnav has a button for DAB radio.  Cath's Grand CMax had this but the option was greyed out on screen.  The option is not greyed out on the Galaxy and selecting it brings up a screen of banks of stations but it will not find individual ones.  There's no documentation with the vehicle and I haven't found anything online yet.

When searching through the documentation for anything related to the ICE I found a receipt for a new alternator and battery, from when it was four years old....
