Title: Ford S Max poor starting
Post by: lehodgsonfamily on June 19, 2013, 10:15:02 AM
Hi, I am wondering if anyone has any ideas to help me with a starting issue. I have a 07 plate 1.8 tdci s.max. it has about 75k. It has developed a starting problem n that. from cold it will start, run for about 5 seconds then stop. it then takes several cranking sessions, sometimes starting and stopping again, and then will start and run fine all day....until the next morning...which is a nightmare when trying to do the school run. I have checked the wiring on top of the cam cover, that appears fine, there are no obvious leaks around the injectors or pump or pipes. any ideas?????? thanks for your advice.  :-\

Hello and  [W4]

Not sure if this is relevant to the S-Max/MK3 but that sounds like the keyfob chip problem on the MK2.
Have you tried using a different key?

 welcome5
have you also carried out the on board diagnostics?
this will tell you the state of your battery amongst other things.

Chris
I was browsing through forums on dmf clutch
and saw some thing about possibly poor starting if faulty clutch
affecting timing
could be a red herring though
might trigger some thoughts for you

Thanks there are no reports on the diagnostics, battery seems good. it appears to have sorted itself out, i suspect it may have been a sticking throttle valve?? maybe it needs to come off for a good clean.  :-\
