Title: Front passenger door can not opened from outside when unlocked
Post by: barnettgs on August 29, 2020, 05:44:20 PM
Hi, I have only got this Galaxy yesterday.

Just one small issue - when unlocking via remote key, front passenger door can not be opened from outside unless I open it from inside.

It seems that locking latch (if that is right name?) from inside seemed to be struck so I had to release it from inside so that it can be opened from outside. However, locking it is no problem.

There's a strange thing - if I try to open windows briefly via remote lock, then this door can be opened from outside!

Any idea what is wrong with it?  I'm hoping for a simple solution.

Thanks and not yet, I guess it's worth a try.

Just had another look with WD40 in hand, I think it isn't sticky. It could be an electrical/mechanical issue?

I also found out that pressing lock remote once doesn't lock this door but the rest of doors are locked. Pressed twice did lock it though.

I think I have found a problem - I noticed that when locking/unlocking - the lock latch inside does not go in/out fully like the rest.

Only it goes about half-way in when locking, is that the cause of motor inside?

Although new to this model the symptoms are similar to lock module issues on other cars I have owned.
Essentially the key sends a signal to the CLM which tells the lock to actuate mechanically via internal micro switches.
As the drivers door lock is the one most used it sounds like failure due to a combination of age and usage.

You could try removing the module and squirting some WD or similar into the catches and if you can get access actually intio the module to see if that cleans out any clag.

One of the issue with these type of modules, not exclusive to ford, is the use of lead free solder which after time sort of 'dries' out and cracks resulting in poor connection to the circuitry of any control board.

If the bit of trim that goes behind the handle is a seperate piece you might want to try removing it and seeing if the problem appears fixed. It sounds like it may be rubbing or catching slightly on the bit around the hole the handle pokes through. The other possible cause would be a binding/sticking issue in the cable to the handle, or the lock motor itself. Either would probabbly be a case of removing the door card and playing around further there to prove or disprove. Disconnecting the handle mechanism from the lock motor/catch would be the easy step in isolating the problem further, suggest you keep the door open whilst testing that though and operate the catch with a screwdriver so you can be sure you can get it open again though.

The bad joint mentioned may be possible, though not on a mk3 Galaxy I've had similar lock issues on another Ford, that didn't seem to have a proper cause. Until the car was left for a few days without being used, at which point it wouldn't start due to a battery that had died. Replaced the battery and the locking issues disappeared after that. It had been playing up for weeks like that prior to the non-start issue.
