Full beam not working on left side
« on: November 07, 2020, 01:56:41 PM »
Full beam on left side doesn't work so replacing it with a new bulb and that didn't help and also swapped the bulbs from right to left just to be sure that new bulb isn't broken, still the same.

I tested the voltage to the headlamp with multimeter, it is just 4v, should be around 12v like the other side but I think it might be down to relay or something?

I could not find any information about location fuse/relay for Ford Galaxy MK3?  Does same fuse covers both sides or just one side?  However, I did find some information on MK4 Ford Mondeo but not sure if they share the same fuse boxes/relays with Galaxy MK3.

I might need to take it to the auto electrician to find the cause.

Hello ,
fuses are in the passengers footwell/under the bonnet.
obviously check the fuses 1st, barr that where you checked/found the 4v trace that cable back to the next connection/joint and check there for voltage, also if possible try to get through the cable insulation with the tester to see is there is voltage at that point as there may be a break in the cable. Hope that helps.

On a 2011 model year I would be suspecting the BCM to be at fault as everything is controlled via that. You need a diagram but if you can obtain one check for voltage at its source (BCM)

4V will be the fail detection circuit, as JR says the BCM has shut the feed off as it's detected an issue (or gone faulty).  Measure the ground side and confirm the resistance isn't excessive, also measure the resistance of the live side with the lights off to ground.

Restart the BCM (disconnect the battery, wait 5 mins or so and reconnect) and see if it changes. Failing that its a BCM failure.

Only just checked my thread now after I finally managed to visit to auto electrician this morning.

They were working on it for almost an hour and came to the conclusion that I would need to leave the car in on Wednesday as it is quite a major one to fix.  They did battery disconnection for few minutes.

Is BCM under the driver's dashboard?  I guess it is likely a BCM failure and if so, I presume may be expensive to replace?

At last shot, I will do a complete battery disconnection over the night as I read somewhere that it did a trick.

If your lucky they may be able to work around the fault, eg by triggering it off a different output and using a relay is sometimes possible. Bcm might be repairable by them as well.

Cost wise cheapest option is likely to be a matching 2nd hand unit and program it to your vehicle. I would guess they first want to check the output from the bcm to give you their best diagnosis and what the cost is to fix it.

Just got my car back from them after 7pm last night as they were very busy all day. The cost for repair was £35 and it's now solved.

Glad to see the back of it! ;D

I guess it is best to leave it to auto electrician at the end of the day.  :)

Unfortunately, he didn't say much about module when I asked and he was already busy with other stuff when I was there about 730ish.

Probably broken wire or bad connection
£35 in total is not a lot of time to do anything involved so must have been a quick fix.

Sounds like a really good garage if they fixed it that cheaply!
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all.

Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.

Yes although they only do auto electric related stuff and they seems to have quite a lot of customers. I was recommended to them by my local garage.
