Title: galaxy 2.0 tdci...genuine cam belt kit or pattern??
Post by: 2355andrew on March 13, 2015, 10:05:23 PM
Hi Guys just wanted to hear your thoughts on replacing the cambelt and water pump on my 2.0 tdci 2008 galaxy. Is it best to use ford parts at 200+ or go to a motor factors for half the cost?? :-\

It depends on what you're getting from the factors, if the whole kit is from a quality brand like Gates, Dayco, Continental, Ina etc then you should be fine as the belts themselves and the tensioner/ idler components tend to be sourced from O.E suppliers so you're getting quality parts, I'd be wary of getting something cheap and with no discernible brand, if it fails the consequences of a belt or tensioner failure are severe! Also, be sure you trust the factor in question to not be selling you knock-offs!

Thanks for your reply, i have always been under the impression that ford etc dont make there belts, they buy from gates etc. so yes i agree with what you say about getting a named brand!! thanks again

Nah, Ford don't manufacture belts or the associated components, they source them from the major manufacturers of such items- I recently bought a Ford kit including water pump to change the cambelt on my partner's '05 1.6 TDCI Fusion and the belt inside the box was Dayco, I can't properly remember who the tensioner/ idlers were made by but it was INA or SKF or somebody like that.
