Title: Galaxy mk3 does not want to start.
Post by: januszt on November 12, 2014, 10:01:25 PM
Dear All,

I have problem with my Galaxy mk3 20 duratec (2007/150k km). It does not ant to start. Below You will find faults history and actions taken up to date (read with ForScan and ELM reader)).

MIL on - > reason for faults check with FORScan
1 st check
P0607 - old error, not present during the check
P1000 - old error, not present during the check
P2008 - Intermittent fault in the time of the check
P2107 - old error, not present during the check
P2110 - old error, not present during the check
P2008 - confirmed - malfunction confirmed
U3001  - Intermittent fault in the time of the check

2nd check (errors read again, same day - just after the first check)
P0607
P1000
P2008
P2107
P2110
P2121   - Intermittent fault in the time of the check
P2122   - Intermittent fault in the time of the check
MIL off after reset

3rd check - day after, about 150 km later
MIL on - switched on during the drive (not sure when exactly, there was one stop mean time)
P1000
P2121
P2122
P2008
Mil off after reset

Day after, after another 15-20 km engine does not want to start. At the beginning, engine behaves like with air being cut-off - rotates once and then stops.

Looking into engine compartment, I found air inlet control valve with position sensor (P/N 1537636) making strange noise (when ignition is on). In addition, flap is being constantly actuated towards closed position even already being there.

I have removed this valve and read errors again:
P0121
P0122
P0221
P0223
P1000
P2111
P2110

I have cleaned the valve and re installed.  The engine still does not want to start with one difference - now there is no even one rotation. Noise from vale is stile present.

I have decided to replace the valve.

New (used) part installed. Faults read. Only P1000 is still being shown. All others are gone. Unfortunately, noise from vale is still there. Engine does not want to start as before.

Questions:
- Is there any other reason for this situation?
- Should i 'reset' something after new/another valve is installed?
- Additional trouble shooting is required to spot the root cause of the issue?

Thank You in advance for Your help on this topic.

 welcome5

the codes that have been thrown up are these from a dedicated fault reader?or from the on board diagnostics?

have you tried disconnecting the battery for say 1/2 hr (make sure you have the radio code)just to see whether it will reset itself?

All codes read using ELM327 and FordScan software. Which makes them on board diagnostic results.

I have disconnected battery once but rather shorter than 1/2 h. Faults have gone but reappeared after next check. I have not tried this after new valve installed.

By the way, while disconnecting the battery, should i just remove 'connector' or it is preferred to  i.e. disconnect fuse to avoid short circut?

I have tried with batter - no effect. Still no errors are displayed.

What i can hear is his strange noise from the valvel, and flap being moved when gaz pedal is pushed.

No clue on what is going on :/
