no heat from blower and it is really cold this morning
« on: November 29, 2016, 09:23:32 AM »
minus 3 degrees this morning and i had to scrap ice of the side windows, got in the car and it was still cold, no heat from the blower at all? I am wondering if it is the heater unit or something else as I drove for about 40 minutes to work and still no heat whatsoever? I was expecting some heat from the engine to warm me up i had the blower on high and low and directed to the windscreen and body and legs and also press the AUTO button to let it sort it all out, but still no heat? I am now wondering if something else is broken/not working right?

Any help/pointers would be good otherwise unless it is going to warm up in December and I won't need to go to a garage to have it fixed.

Thanks.

Not sure if same as the 2.0tdci but thermostat and oil cooler thermostat can significantly increase warm up time.

Did the instrument cluster show temperature in the car or was that still on cold as well?
If the car is showing hot then I would consider the possibility of a stuck heater flap motor as the most likely culprit

A little extra information before I get the tools out and nip over to haynes-manuals to download the manual...

I pressed the FOOTWELL & OFF buttons, then AUTO on the A/C unit for it to do a diagnostics check and if the fan speed led's  do up and down a few times and then the whole display is lit up, no error codes. So that's good-ish if I did it right.

Also after driving for about 30-45 minutes (to work this morning) I turned the car off and locked it and noticed again this morning, same yesterday and last night too, the fan was running still? Is that normal because it is cold or does that sound like the thermostat is knackered?

Once again thanks for the help on this.

And yes the instrument cluster shows normal engine operating temperature.

Have you tried physically feeling the coolant hoses to see if they are hot? Particularly the ones going to cabin.

:P :P Fixed - Went out this morning to start the car with my biggest coat on and gloves for the trip to work and the car would only turn over without actually 'catching?' Oh another problem to sort out now and I haven't even got to the bottom of the lack of heating yet!

Anyway cut a long story short. I went indoors and called the breakdown people, an hour later they turned up and first thing he checked with the coolant level, it was empty, so after 1 litre of anti-freeze and 1 litre of water, it was nearly full again, he did say that I will need to check my glowplugs as that is the reason it was not starting this morning.

So fixed with water in the engine and it nice and warm now [:banging my head on the dashboard]

Thanks everyone for you input.

Just keep an eye on that as if the coolant was that low it must have gone somewhere- it's not normal to lose that much coolant without there being an underlying cause for it.

I have a similar problem, but I found a small pinhole in a coolant hose that runs horizontally behind the engine.  Unfortunately, I cannot gain access to the connections, so I have had to book it into a garage!!!!
