SOLVED!! Engine Malfunction warning...
« on: February 04, 2016, 07:56:59 AM »
you'll love this one.  Engine Malfunction light on dashboard, along with ABS and red Handbrake warning light. Then eratic speedo, odometer showing -----, eratic rev counter, oil warning lamp, engine light, malfunction light goes solid red, then just red triangle...

In blind panic I took it to local FORD dealer - who couldn't diagnose the fault. They said "it might be BCM (Body Control Module), or it might be PCM (Power drive train control module), or a wiring fault, or a CANBUS fault. Your bill so far is 65 - how much do you want to spend?"

Paid my 65, dragged the car out of there, parked it on my drive - and had a cuppa tea. Guess the car dried out, because with doing NOTHING to it, it started first time, and all the errors were cleared.  When it rains, water gets in somewhere, and generates all the fault, leave it to dry out, and it's all fixed.

Ford technicians had failed to notice that the water pipe had come off near to the egr valve - so there was no coolant in the engine when they test drove it...

I've now bought a Vauxhall  :)

Id go and ask your your 65 back
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I am happy to help you with all your questions. I am not a qualified mechanic but seem to be better at fixing my car than even the most experienced garages.

I have lots of friends here and very much enjoy talking with you all.

Always remember, a motor car is a serious tool and should be treated with respect. Put your safety first, always.
