What tyres are you using?
« on: August 02, 2016, 07:17:45 AM »
Hi men,
I haven't been on for a while as nothing has gone wrong (crossing my fingers)but often have a read.

I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks time so I was giving the car a check over and realised that the tyres are nearing the mark and experience has shown that you are more liable to get punctures when you get to that point and we don't want that now do we.

I have a dilemma in that I want good tyres and have pondered on Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres but the cheapest is 99 fitted in my area. By the way I need 4 tyres so £396 fitted. I don't want to dig in that far because the holiday is coming up but really need tyres before I go.

So the question is what tyres do you run on your cars? Were they expensive to the point that you winced?

I would be more than happy with £200 for a set but fear they will be overnight from China. Having said that a budget tyre will be better than the no tread tyres I am running at the moment.

The other point is which tyres suit a mk3 Galaxy 2007 2.0 TDCI.

Ok so that enough questions so can you please put my mind straight and put me on the path to happiness.  ;D

No problems what so ever, certainly quieter than the previous michelins HP's that were fitted from new, hopefully they'll wear just as well

I too am on Michelin Primacy 3's.
Have been mightily impressed by the ride, handling and low road noise.
However, Huxlee getting 40K out of his first set is impressive; I'm looking at my third set at 38K.

I replaced my original Michelin Primacy HPs on the rears with Primacy 3's a few months ago having done around 30k on the HPs.

I've done 5500 miles on the Primacy 3's so far and haven't had any issues and there are no signs of wear.

The fronts will need replacing soon so I will swap those to Primacy 3 also.

How are you finding the wear on Michelin Primacy 3 and can anybody recommend a better alternative?

My Mk3 Galaxy 2.0l Diesel is running Primacy 3 all round.
The rears have done around 24k miles and should be good for another 10k but the fronts having only covered 11k miles are about 1mm away from the wear indicators. That's really not good!

The original Michelin Primacy HP covered around 20k miles on the front and so did the budget Champiro FE1 fitted by the Ford main dealer when we bought the car.

I had hoped the Primacy 3's would wear about the same as the Primacy HPs but that hasn't been the case for me. The tyres have worn evenly and the tracking & balancing is all ok.

I must be a real granny.  My Mondeo (same floorpan as the Galaxy) gets close to 50k out of (I forget which version) Primacys.  I have the Crossclimate on at the moment - done just over 30k on those and they definitely won't last as long as the Primacys.  Although they wore dramatically at first, with being a blocky tread, the wear has slowed substantially.

Michelin claims 5k more out of Primacys, compared to equivalent tyres from pretty much all the other major manufacturers.

I have no idea how you manage 50k out of tyres,my xtype which is a mondeo in drag is lucky to do 15k on fronts and  20k out of rears. Donít matter which make thatís the max I can get.

i was only getting about 10k out of the fronts on my smax,so went over to accellera tyres,my thoughts were.if im going keep changing them then id go cheapos.a lot of smax owners done the same.

last month had to change my rears on my t5,only got 10 k out of them so again have used accelleras.but my van is a camper so a lot of weight to lug around, even more when im added to it, :)

I didn't realise the Michelin Primacy 3's had been replaced with Primacy 4's.

The 4's seem to be about the same price as the last time I bought 3's so I might do some research and see if they  wear better.
